A Contrastive Analysis of Politeness in English and Chinese

I. Introduction
When we communicate with other people,we should have to obey a lot of manners which have rooted in our daily life. If not, there will appear many misunderstandings. Every nation has its politeness. China is famous for its manners. People use different politeness in different situations. We should say politeness is a driving force in our communication with people around us. Children receive education in school in order to have a good manner. So we can see that politeness is a very important language art.
?People from different regions may have different manners, thus they could encounter difficulties in their communication. It is the same as they have different dialects and customs. China is a big country. We have 56 kinds of people. How to make this big family united together. The only way is to respect the customs of each other. Thus, we can have a peaceful society. As the development of our country, the internationalism is becoming more and more rapidly. A lot of new elements come into our country. We need to communicate with people of the world. They have their own attitudes towards things which maybe a little bit different or totally different with us. If we do not understand the customs of them, absolutely, we will have a lot of difficulties in this process. Sometimes, we are likely to understand one thing in our own perspective. Today, a better understanding of people who come from other cultures is very important. Especially in the cross-culture communication. This article is written to draw a conclusion about differences of politeness between Chinese and English from different perspectives.
