According to the geospatial data management characteristic and open extension mechanism of ArcCatalog, the research steps and primary technologies for developing a custom metadata editor were discussed in detail, and a XML-based Metadata Editor for Geological disaster data was designed. The result would be a reference to the geospatial metadata research and the standardized management for spatial data.
