Introduction:

Deliriumisacommonclinicalentitycharacterizedbyacuteand

fluctuatingchangesinconsciousness,attention,andcognition.Itoften

occursincriticallyillpatients,particularlyinthoseintheintensivecare

unit(ICU).ICUdeliriumcanleadtopoorprognosis,prolongedhospital

stay,increasedhealthcarecosts,andlong-termcognitiveimpairment.

Hence,earlydetectionandmanagementofdeliriumarecrucialto

improvepatientoutcomes.TheConfusionAssessmentMethodforthe

ICU(CAM-ICU)isavalidatedandreliabletoolusedfortheassessment

ofdeliriuminICUpatients.Theobjectiveofthisstudyistoevaluatethe

effectivenessoftheCAM-ICUtoolindetectingdeliriuminICUpatients.

Objectives:

1.ToevaluatetheprevalenceofICUdeliriuminadultICUpatients.

2.ToassesstheperformanceoftheCAM-ICUtoolinidentifying

ICUdelirium.

3.ToidentifytheriskfactorsassociatedwithICUdelirium.

Methods:

Thisstudywillbeaprospectiveobservationalstudy.Thestudy

populationwillincludeadultICUpatientswhohavebeenadmittedfor

morethan24hours.TheCAM-ICUtoolwillbeusedtoassessdelirium

inthesepatientstwicedailyduringtheirICUstay.Thedemographic

data,clinicalhistory,laboratorydata,andclinicaloutcomeswillbe

collectedfromtheelectronicmedicalrecordsofthepatients.The

prevalenceofICUdeliriumanditsassociatedriskfactorswillbe

analyzedusingdescriptivestatistics.Thesensitivity,specificity,positive

predictivevalues,andnegativepredictivevaluesoftheCAM-ICUtool

willalsobecalculated.

Expectedoutcomes:

ItisexpectedthattheprevalenceofICUdeliriumwillbehighin

thisstudypopulation.TheCAM-ICUtoolisexpectedtohaveahigh

sensitivitya
